About Reykjavík Geothermal |
The majority of the world’s best geothermal resources still lie unexploited. Properly harnessed, these represent some of the cheapest energy sources in the world – easily competitive with coal or natural gas.
Reykjavík Geothermal (RG) was founded in 2008 by one of the world’s most experienced geothermal management teams to harness the vast untapped investment and development opportunities in the sector worldwide – particularly in developing and emerging markets.
RG’s vision is to work with local partners to harness these resources and develop utility-scale geothermal power plants, providing a cheap, clean and indigenous energy source for the benefit of local economies, while providing attractive returns for investors.
RG is uniquely positioned to become a leading company in this rapidly growing sector. The management team’s track record spans over 30 countries, and includes leading the development of the world's largest geothermal power plant (Iceland’s 700+ MW Hellisheiði project) on time and on budget.
Backed by strong industry, government and investor networks, the company is currently active in Iceland, India, Kenya, Nicaragua, Russia, Rwanda and the United Arab Emirates. In addition to pioneering the first geothermal developments in the Arabian Gulf and in India, the company’s current focus is on building its pipeline of development projects in East Africa and across the world.
